Scirpus lacustris

Scirpus lacustris, commonly known as common club-rush, is a tall marginal aquatic perennial with upright, cylindrical green stems that form dense clumps along pond edges and in shallow water. In summer it produces brown, spike-like flowers above the foliage, adding strong vertical structure and texture to wetland plantings.

This species thrives in shallow water or permanently wet soil and provides ecological value by offering habitat for insects and wetland wildlife. Its vigorous, upright habit and tolerance of waterlogged conditions make it ideal for pond margins, lakesides, and naturalistic or wildlife-focused planting schemes.
