Egeria najas

Egeria najas (Brazilian Waterweed) is a fast-growing aquatic stem plant with long, slender stems covered in fine green leaves. Its dense growth provides excellent shelter for shrimp, fry and small fish while helping to absorb excess nutrients and improve water quality.

An easy and adaptable plant, Najas thrives under low to moderate lighting and does not require added CO₂, making it suitable for beginner aquariums. It can be planted in the substrate or allowed to grow freely, and is also suitable for sheltered ponds during warmer months where it provides valuable cover and oxygenation for aquatic life. Regular trimming may be required to prevent it from becoming overly dense.
